Scholarships

Every year Waitākere Kyokushin Karate has a number of scholarships available to children and youth in the local community surrounding the Waitākere Kyokushin Karate Charitable Trust Dojo who would not be able to afford to participate in sporting activities outside of school. The scholarships cover the dogi (uniform), use of protective equipment and a year of 1x a week training at the dojo. After the year of free training the students then get the opportunity to re-apply for the scholarship for the following year.

To apply for the scholarship you must meet or provide the following criteria:

1/ The recipient must live in the Glen Eden Community or within a 5km driving/walking distance to the Karate Dojo. Proof of address must be provided.
2/ Recipient or parent of the recipient must have a current community services card.
3/ Recipient is to provide a brief description of why they are applying for the scholarship and how it will benefit the recipient.
4/ Recipient must not be enrolled in any other extra-curricular activities or sports (eg gymnastics or dance) excluding sports and activities organised through their school.
5/ A letter of recommendation from a social worker or other official organisation may be of benefit in selecting the successful recipient.

Currently Waitākere Kyokushin Karate has 7 scholarships available to children from 8-18 years of age for Term 1 2020.
